THE ROLE OF LEISURE MOTIVATION ON SOCIALIZATION

It is thought that individuals’ interaction with others by participating in activities in leisure remaining from their obligated time as motivated is directly associated with socialization. This study is to examine the effects of leisure motivations of the members of the sports center on socialization. The population of the study is comprised of members of the sports centers located in Adana and Mersin provinces, and its sample is comprised of voluntary members (n = 985) determined by convenience sampling method. By applying a relational screening model, the data were collected using the survey method. In addition to the personal information form, "Leisure Motivation Scale" (LMS) and "Socialization Scale" were used as data collection tools in the study. Frequency, percentage, average and standard deviation were used as descriptive statistics in the evaluation of the data. The hypothesis of the research was tested by structural equation modeling. According to the results of the study, external regulation (β = 0,341), accomplishment (β = 0,367) and to experience stimulation (β = 0,426) increased socialization, but to know, amotivation, identification and introjection did not affect socialization. As a result, it is seen that leisure motivation affects socialization in a positive way.
